I hadn’t posted about literature for a quite long time, so today I decided to tell you about books I’m reading now and the stuff I have recently bought. I think that I will set “book haul” posts on a regular basis if this one will be well accepted.
October book haul 2017
The book I’m reading now was written by Victor Hugo. It’s called “Les Misérables”. You probably know this huge and epic novel, as well as many films, created on the idea of this book. Needless to say that “Les Misérables” is very popular now as it shows actual problems of the modern society. I read it for almost a month and managed to reach the end of the first part of three existing. I probably will write a review soon. Then I’m planning to make a short break and focus on books I’ve recently bought (yesterday). I feel that my brain is boiling inside my head. Hugo’s roman is very interesting, but also quite hard to understand as it contains tonnes of useless words in my opinion.
I vent to a local bookstore and bought three new books.
William Makepeace Thackeray — “Vanity Fair” (1847–1848). I wanted to read this one for quite a long time! I wandered around the bookshelf with this novel in time being a bookseller. I didn’t remember why I hadn’t bought this book 5 years ago. Now it’s a perfect time. I wanted to take a break from the “Les Misérables”, but it seems that the “Vanity Fair” describes the same period of time during Napoleonic Wars. What a joke! I feel very excited about this book and can’t wait to start reading it.
Julian Barnes — “The Lemon Table” (2004). Another book by Julian Barnes in my collection. I was disappointed by his last novel but decided to give author another chance. This author is very unstable. I have five books by Julian Barnes and love only three of them. The diagram of my happiness should be like that: “Wow! — Wow! — Meh. — Crap.” It develops by descending curve as you can see. I decided that “The Lemon Table”, a short stories compilation, is the last chance for Julian Barnes to take place in my heart forever. If it fails, I will close author’s topic for a long period of time.
Макс Фрай — “Отдай моё сердце” (2017). Max Frei is my favourite fantasy author ever. I wrote a lot about her books on The Black Sessions. “Give My Heart Back” is the 6th book in the 3rd cycle about fantasy city named Echo. I hadn’t even read the plot summary because I’m buying Max Frei’s books by the fact of their existence. I hope this one will not disappoint me!
This is all for the October book haul 2017.
